Later, another fateful apple indirectly incited the Trojan War, when Paris awarded Aphrodite a golden apple in exchange for the most beautiful woman in the world—Helen of Troy, wife of Menelaus. This beguiling fruit has a long and entangled history, as evidenced in the similarity between the two words in Latin: mālum ”an apple”, and mălum ”an evil.”
