Muhuhu, also called African sandalwood, is a rare oil derived from tall, slender trees found along the eastern African coasts of Kenya and Tanzania. The muhuhu tree—called muhuqwe in Kenya—was long used for fuel and was even shipped to India for use in cremation ceremonies. Today, the rich, red hue of the wood makes it popular in traditional mask and figurine carvings. Often compared to Indian sandalwood, the deeply aromatic muhuhu tree has a woody, smoky-sweet scent.
