Neroli is an oil derived from the bitter orange tree. The tree originally grew in parts of India, Africa, and the Himalayas, but it’s best known as the product of an American state. Spanish explorers in the 1500s brought orange trees to St. Augustine, Florida—the oldest continually occupied European settlement in the U.S.—giving birth to Florida’s thriving citrus groves. In 17th century Europe, neroli oil gained popularity thanks to Anne Marie Orsini, the princess of Nerola, Italy. The princess used the oil to perfume her gloves and bath, and the term neroli has been used for the fragrance ever since.
This essential oil blend is a very good substitute for pure Neroli, giving you that nice floral fruity character without destroying your pocket book. Because it contains neroli along with other essential oils, the blend is not cheap but much more affordable than straight neroli.
