About this Essential Oil

Blood Cedar wood oil has amazing odor and beautiful red color. It is a deep, rich cedar wood, smooth yet tenacious. Should result in a nice color in a final soap product. It is the preferred heartwood of older trees that gives this rich hue and undeniably superior scent. The Aroma is oily-woody, slightly sweet, mild and pleasant and somewhat balsamic. A natural constituent, Cedrol, though virtually odorless will crystallize in aging oils. This lot already has a high Cedrol content but a prominent constituent, Cedrene, a sesquiterpene, may slowly convert to Cedrol or Cedrenol during the aging of the oil. It is used extensively in aromatherapy, soap making and the perfume industry. Mixed with Ceylon Citronella it can be used as a mosquito-repellent. The dry woody character of the oil permits it to blend well with Patchouli, Sandalwood and Vetiver, however it has been used in the industry as an adulterant for these same oils. Furthermore, when properly applied it tends to act as a fixative.

Cedarwood Mythology

The cedar tree is a symbol of spiritual protection and purification. Long revered as a spiritual tree, its wood was used to make the doors of sacred temples, and burned in cleansing and purification ceremonies. Ancient Sumerians revered the cedar, calling it the World Tree, in which their chief god Ea resided.
