Happy Anniversary!

Posted on June 20, 2016 by Jessica Reynolds

Greetings Vetiver Fans!

Hello again, it has been another wonderful year here at Vetiver and we have all of you to thank for our prosperity and growth. Your reviews, feedback, and support has made us into the great company we inspire to be. It's been 5 years since Angie started this adventure because she loved the art of Perfumery, and we also have her to thank for making this small business into a dream come true.

So we would like to thank our customers by giving everyone free shipping for the next two weeks on any order placed in the United States of America! For our international customers we would like to show our appreciation by giving you a 5% off discount code to use on your order, when placed between now and July 4th, 2016! Use discount code [ty5celebrate ] at checkout! Both of these promotions end July 5th, 2016 so make sure to get your orders in.

We have also reached our goal of 1,000 likes on Facebook! It took a little longer than expected but it was fun to watch our fan base grow. We would also like to congratulate our two winners Sarah Wagner-Ranes who won our Perfume Gift Set, and our surprise winner Ezada-Capri Alexander who won a Pocket Perfume Kit. Thank you everyone for participating!

Perfumer's Corner

I had a customer email me with a very good question and thought I would share my answer to their inquiry here. They were wondering if it was important to use all three notes (top, heart and base) when creating a custom blend.

Well to be honest perfumery is part science and part art. The science comes from the chemistry of the compounds and how they react to one another, how the carrier agent dilutes the blend, and the final mixture that you'll come to love. The art is really where you get to be creative! Of course there are dilution recommendations (you can find these on our FAQ page under Perfumer Questions), and blending guidelines but once you understand why those recommendations are in place you can play with your mixtures!

The short answer is no, you do not need all three. You can blend as few or as many notes as you like! We even sell Single Note Perfumes on our website! They can be all top notes, or a mixture of any of the three. However, to have a well rounded perfume with good staying power you will need to add all three notes. Remember these guidelines are just a starting point, feel free to experiment and use your creativity to create a truly unique blend.

   Top Notes

Browse our Top Notes! When you first inhale you are smelling the top notes. Also called head notes, they are very strong in scent. They are perceived immediately upon the application of a perfume. Top notes consist of small, light molecules that evaporate quickly. They form a person's initial impression of a perfume and thus are very important in the selling of the finished product. The scents of this note class are usually described as "fresh", "assertive" or "sharp". We recommend a 30-50% of your perfume be top notes.

   Heart Notes
The Heart note is the scent of a perfume that emerges just prior to when the top note dissipates. The middle note compounds form the "heart" or the main body of a perfume. They serve to mask the often unpleasant initial impression of the base notes, which become more pleasant with time. Not surprisingly, the scent of a heart note compound is usually more "mellow" and "rounded". Scents from this note class appear anywhere from two minutes to one hour after the application of a perfume. We recommend 30-50% of your perfume be heart notes. Browse our Heart Notes!

   Base Notes
This is the last and final scent that appears close to the departure of the heart notes. The base and middle notes come together to form the main theme of the perfume. Base notes bring great depth and solidity to a perfume. Compounds of this class are often the fixatives used to hold and boost the strength of the lighter top and heart notes. Consisting of large, heavy molecules that evaporate slowly, compounds of this class scent are typically called "rich" and "intricate". They are usually not perceived until at least 30 minutes after the application of the perfume or during the period of dry-down. Some base notes can still be detectable in excess of 24 hours! Well those are all of our updates for now!
Have a happy and safe Independence Day! <3

Perfumer's Corner: Covering your Bases

Posted on August 24, 2015 by Jessica Reynolds

Greetings Vetiver Fans!

Vetiver has been preparing for the upcoming holidays and we hope you are too. While most of you find yourself heading back to school or busy preparing for fall we here at Vetiver have been buzz with a new product: Beeswax!

This carrier is popular for creating solid perfumes, lip balms, candles, homemade salves, lotions and soaps! It doesn't spoil, it retains moisture, prevents microorganism growth, and has great health benefits. Because we are introducing a new perfume carrier we'd like to take this time to help educate you on the differences between them.

We have new 5 ml solid perfume/lip balm containers that will be on the site soon for you to purchase. You can now also browse our fragrance oils by our Bestsellers: http://vetiveraromatics.com/collections/best-sellers

Perfumer's Corner

When designing your custom fragrances there are plenty of options to choose from when you are looking for a carrier agent. Alcohol, Oils and Waxes will all produce very different types of perfumes! So what is the real differences between them and how do you know which one is right for you?

What is the purpose of a carrier agent?

Carriers are a base material that "carries" the scent of your fragrance. A carrier agent has three functions: protect the wearer, lift and carry the scent, and dilute the fragrance. Most essential and fragrance oils cannot be applied directly to the skin. Diluting the oils in a carrier is the perfect solution to help put a protect barrier between yourself and the ingredients of the perfume. Even with essential oils too much is a bad thing! You also need to carry the scent so others can smell your perfume. Alcohol is well known for this as it evaporates it puts the fragrance into the air around you. Oil and wax however is long lasting because it is absorbed into your skin. Depending on the form and strength of your perfume is what carrier agent you need to choose:

Perfumer's Alcohol

Perfumer's Alcohol is the most popular carrier agent for perfume oils because of its method of application. The alcohol allows your perfume to be spritzed any where you would like to apply your fragrance. As the alcohol in the fragrance evaporates, it carries the scent away from you and allows for a stronger presence. Our perfumer's alcohol blend is SDA 40B and widely used in the professional perfume industry. The pure grain alcohol is 200 proof and ready to be made into all of your custom creations such as: Perfume, Eau de Parfume, Eau de Toilette, Cologne, Eau de Cologne, After Bath Spray and Air Freshener!

Fractionated Coconut Oil

Fractionated coconut oil is a common carrier for perfume oils, due to its odorless scent and lack of greasy residue. It is also popular among massage therapists for their massage oils, for similar reasons. Its lack of greasy residue and overall colorlessness also means it is less likely to stain clothing than some other oils.

This is coconut oil that has been modified so that it remains liquid at room temperature. The liquid is remarkably thin – its molecules are even small enough to fit through the holes in many atomizers. Color and smell can vary from batch to batch, as with all natural products, but it is typically fairly clear and relatively odorless.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil is a preferred carrier for perfume oils because it so closely resembles human sebum, the natural oil that your skin and hair produces. It is quickly absorbed and does not leave a greasy residue. Our jojoba oil is 100%jojoba, unrefined, cold-pressed, and filtered. Color and smell can vary from batch to batch, as with all natural products, but it has a lovely natural honey color and a characteristic slight nutty odor. Because of its health benefits, jojoba is widely used in many skin and hair care products around the world.

Beeswax

Beeswax is an ancient and natural carrier for creating solid perfume. Our beeswax is cosmetic grade and refined to purify the wax and remove any residue from being in the honeycomb. It comes in its natural yellow form and is in little beads to make melting and mixing easier for you. Remember beeswax should always be melted by double boiler method and not directly over heat. The wax has a pleasant honey smell and is well known for its fixative properties helping to anchor more volatile fragrance notes. Beeswax is also perfect for those working within a natural perfumery palette.

Spring is on the Horizon!

Posted on March 10, 2015 by Jessica Reynolds

Greetings Vetiver Fans! I know it's been quite a few months since our last newsletter but many changes have been happening for Vetiver! Since we have moved into the Elsby building Jessica has been working hard to learn the ins and outs of being an assistant manager. Now that we are all settled in, you can look forward to hearing a lot more from us!

Some important changes!

March has definitely roared in like a lion! Now that the snow is melting and the flowers are blooming its time for some spring cleaning. Out with the old and in with the new! We'd like to share with you today some important changes that have been happening on the site.

Let's start with our fragrance oils. You will now see them listed as fragrance notes under our first menu option: Perfume Ingredients. No worries they are still the same fragrance oils you know and love, just now with a new title. You can still shop by note or scent family or you can also use this new quick order form for ease of ordering our 1/8 oz to 1 oz oils. Need more than 1 oz? We now offer 2 oz, 4 oz, and 16 oz sizes on this bulk quick order form!

We have restructured our menus a bit so you will now find our carrier agents (fractionated coconut oil and jojoba oil) under Perfume Ingredients as well. We are also excited to announce that we will be selling the long awaited Perfumer's Alcohol mostly likely starting next month!

New Products!

Vetiver has been adding lots of new things to our site! We have a brand new Perfumer's Palette! Great for those of us who still would like to creatively blend new scents but aren't savvy on the science of mixing our own! Check out this brand new kit here: Perfumer's Palette <3 What else is new?

* Need 1 oz screw thread droppers? We carry them!

* All of our fragrance notes and essential oils can now be ordered in 2 oz sizes!

Cyber Monday & Giving Tuesday

Posted on November 25, 2014 by Jessica Reynolds

We have exciting news! This year, Vetiver plans to celebrate Cyber Monday on December 1st, and Giving Tuesday on December 2nd! We are having a special event for each day:

Cyber Monday is when we are launching our Loyalty Program! In this program every dollar you spend earns you points. When you make a purchase and sign up for our Loyalty Program on Monday, you will receive $25.00 worth of perfume points free! Unfortunately we will be unable to go backwards and give reward points for previous orders. Your bonus points will be awarded within 24hrs of making the purchase.

Giving Tuesday we have decided to donate 50% of all sales to Kentucky Refugee Ministries at http://kyrm.org. Angie and her daughter have been volunteering there this season so we thought it would be appropriate choice for our charity this year.

We are super excited this year to offer such great events! Our team here at Vetiver hopes you love these great deals and we are very happy to be able to give back to our community this year! Let us know what you think about our new events below in the comments!

Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving everyone!
